What's the difference between "instant book" and "request to book" listings?

Instant book

"Instant book" means that Hipcampers are able to get immediate confirmation of their booking upon selecting available dates and going through the booking process. Listings that are "instant book" will display this on the righthand side of the page on a laptop or desktop, and on the bottom of the screen on mobile devices.

Request to book

With "request to book" listings, Hosts are given 24 hours to respond to Hipcampers' requests. Hosts can either accept or decline bookings, and the request will expire after 24 hours if the Host does not respond. Listings set up as "request to book" will display this on the righthand side of the page on a laptop or desktop, and on the bottom of the screen on mobile devices.

Hipcamp charges you when/if a request to book is accepted. However, the charge will show up as "pending" on your credit card while the request is pending, and sometimes for up to 7 days after the request expires or is declined by the Host.
